Prerequisite: either minimum grade of 2.0 in MATH 334, or a minimum grade of 2. Math 453 features recorded lectures from Professor Berndt's course that was taught at the University of Illinois in Spring 2018. MATH 442 Differential Geometry (3) NSc Examines curves in the plane and 3-spaces, surfaces in 3-space, tangent planes, first and second fundamental forms, curvature, the Gauss-Bonnet Theorem, and possible other selected topics. This course was created by UIUC Mathematics Professor Bruce Berndt, who was recently named one of the world’s ten most influential mathematicians by Academic Influence. The university is continuing its efforts to protect valuable assets and access by requiring Two Factor Authentication (2FA) on more systems and services in Fall 2018. Additional topics covered include sums of squares, Diophantine equations, and continued fractions. Introductory course in modern differential geometry focusing on examples, broadly aimed at students in mathematics, the sciences, and engineering. Core topics include divisibility, primes and factorization, congruences, arithmetic functions, quadratic residues and quadratic reciprocity, primitive roots and orders.
